Used Combine Harvester Inspection Guide
Buying a used combine harvester is a great way to save money on an important piece of equipment, but it’s usually best to know as much as possible about what you’re buying. Luckily, a quick inspection can give you a lot of important information about the used model. If you’re interested in purchasing a used combine and want some tips on how to perform the most effective inspection possible, check out this guide from Atlantic Tractor.
Check the Odometer
The first thing you should do is establish how much usage the pre-owned combine harvester has seen. For this you need to know both the hours of engine operation and the hours of separator operation. If you check the meters and either number seems too high, you might want to check out a different model.
Check the Engine Compartment
Your next step should be to check the used combine harvester’s engine for leaks in order to detect any damaged hydraulics, coolant lines, or fuel lines. We also recommend looking up the engine’s specifications to make sure it is compliant with local emissions standards.
Check the Cab
Take a look around the harvester’s cab to see if there are any signs of wear and tear. Make sure that all displays and controls are fully functional, and that the area is free of unusual smells. If the seating appears worn out, you’ll likely have to replace it.
Check the Attachments
Combine harvesters are often equipped with attachments or accessories. As part of your inspection, you should check to make sure that all of these add-on components are in good condition. Make sure that there are no missing blades or damaged tubing. If some of the attachments/accessories are a bad fit for your operation, such as the unloading auger not being as long as what you need, you may need to try a different harvester or find out how much a refit will cost.
