Farming is dirty work, and keeping your equipment clean can feel like an uphill battle. However, dirt and grime left caked on your farm equipment for too long tends to encourage long-term deterioration. That’s why you’ll want to use the tips in this guide from Atlantic Tractor to clean your farm equipment better.

Develop a Cleaning Routine

The frequency with which your equipment will need to be cleaned depends on both how often it is used and how heavily it is used. It’s obviously frustrating to clean a piece of equipment only for it to get dirty the very next day, and daily cleaning would use up a lot of soap and water. As a baseline, try cleaning your equipment at least once a week if it's being used. Take the time to inspect your equipment for possible maintenance issues during these cleanings.

Use Appropriate Cleaning Solutions & Tools

Cleaning products make removing grease and oil from your farm equipment much easier. Unfortunately, certain products may actually damage your equipment. Luckily, the owner’s manual should have a list of which products are safe and which aren’t.

Focus on Critical Components

Internal parts like engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components are just as important as what’s on the outside. However, they are also a bit more sensitive to damage, so we recommend using non-abrasive tools like soft brushes and sponges. Don’t forget to clean your vents and replace dirty filters as needed.

Clean Attachments Separately

Your farm equipment’s attachments and implements need to be kept clean as well. It’s best to remove these add-ons before you start cleaning the equipment itself instead of trying to clean them together. Leaving them attached can result in damage to the equipment or attachments.
